ELAC Meeting
All are welcome to join for our first ELAC (English Learner Advisory Committee) Meeting!
English Language Advisory Committee - Parents Needed!
Dear Parents of Eastshore Elementary,
Are you looking for ways to be involved in the Eastshore Elementary School community? Being a part of the Eastshore Elementary School ELAC committee is an excellent opportunity to participate in a worthwhile statewide educational program. The following information may be helpful in deciding whether you want to be involved in ELAC!
WHAT IS ELAC?
ELAC stands for English Learner Advisory Committee. All schools with 21 or more English Language Learners are required to establish an English Learner Advisory Committee. Any parent from the school may attend our meetings and we strongly encourage parents of English Learners to join the ELAC committee. This committee also helps to develop the SPSA (School Plan for Student Achievement), specific to the needs of English Language Learners. The committee will advise the Principal and staff on matters impacting our English Language Learners and will support efforts to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance. Not only do we need parents to attend our meetings, but we also need:
- ELAC President - This is a parent who will assist Andrea Alexander (Eastshore’s English Development Coordinator) with running the ELAC meetings.
- ELAC Secretary - This is a parent who will assist with notetaking during ELAC meetings.
- DELAC Representative - This is a parent from our school who services on the District English Language Advisory Committee (DELAC) and reports back to the ELAC site committee. 2025-26 DELAC meetings are scheduled from 4-5:30 p.m. via Zoom for the following dates:
- October 21, 2025
- January 20, 2026
- March 17, 2026
- May 19, 2026
WHAT ARE THE LCAP GOALS?
The ELAC Committee works to support the Irvine Unified LCAP (Local Control and Accountability Plan) goals. The goals are:
- LCAP Goal #1: Ensure all students attain proficiency in the current content standards.
- LCAP Goal #2: Ensure access to rigorous and relevant learning tools, resources, and skills for all staff and students.
- LCAP Goal #3: Cultivate a positive school culture and system of supports for student personal and academic growth.
- LCAP Goal #4: Communicate effectively and form strategic alliances to secure the support and resources.
